Evaluation

                                                     Evaluation of school song

I've lately been very unorganised lately due to the fact I haven't been putting all my work as a priority and not keeping track of it for example, I didn't realise we had a 4 hour lesson used for practise of the assessment coming up. So, when i found out i started panicking and i immediately told Mrs I  didn't know about this. she told me "not to panic and give my best as that is better than just not turn up". I then took a few minutes to calm down. Later, I come back willing to just get it done with. In our 4 hour lesson we practised all of the songs we'd done over the previous months like school song, wilkomen, nothing like Dane etc.

vocal performance skills
My vocal performance i would say is usually quite good because my voice is naturally loud and projected so i never need to worry about trying to project it even though, as a group it was a big target of ours. Due to me having such a loud voice i have to make sure I 100% know the words or i might start belting the wrong lyrics and just make a mess of the song. To make sure this didn't happen i made sure to practise a lot at home for songs like nothing like a dane, wilkomen, season of love etc. I've also naturally got a very clear and easy to understand voice when i sing (articulation). I made sure to really show this off in my solos at the start. Because i was the last child to sing "mum said im an angel". I made sure to put in a lot of projection and articulation to build up the atmosphere ready for the big kids introduction. I struggled to keep in time with the tune at the start due, to weak stamina however, i began to see a gradual improvements as the weeks went on. This is the same with staying in time with the song. I really struggled with time management at the start but as i became more familiar to the song it massively started to improve.

dance performance skills
Since starting musical theatre I've been lacking confidence within the dancing element. This is due to the fact i don't
see myself as good as the rest off the class because i'm
quite new to dancing and only started when starting the course. When we first started I was so self-conscience and embarrassed of my dancing skills that i began to miss lessons as, i didn't feel i could bring myself to keep doing it. However, i talked to Nadine about it and she told me to keep trying and ill gradually improve. That's exactly what i did and i started to see major improvements within my dance and my confidence. Every time we learnt some more of the choreography I always made sure that I practise it repeatedly to help me remember it when needed for example the choreograph we learnt earlier on in school song. One big struggle I started with was my stamina like, back in September i used to get tired out by the warm ups however, by the end performance i managed to do all the songs and choreograph without getting tired. As a little kid i didn't do much dancing but, are characterisation was incredibly important. During the end performance i had fully grasped doing the choreograph for school song in time with the music.

Drama performance skills
As I was a little kid i didn't have much dancing to do instead characterisation was important. This is because the audience need to believe we are terrified of the big kids. Characterisation was something my group performed strongly at without a lot of practise as we mainly focused on the choreography. During the performance I successfully played a terrified little kid and managed to keep up the persona due to constantly reminding myself in my head that i need to look scared. I also decided to try and look all innocent pulling a sad face and making my eyes really wide. I think i was very good at remaining in character for example, I didn't laugh when something funny happened.  Overall, it think our group has been successful at making sure the audience would be able to distinguish the contrasting roles of the kids. little kids being weaker and scared off the big kids. Big kids having the dominance and showing aggression to the little kids.

Costumes/props evaluation
During the show at the end we regularly had to change costumes this is due to helping to bringing the performers to life. For example, for school song we were all in school attire (skirts, polos and shirts). We all successfully managed to change in time, bring our costumes (or borrow clothes if we didn't have them). We also used props in school song (blocks). Even though it took a lot of practise it really improved the performance. I feel it also impressed the audience due to how difficult it is to keep up with. However, because off all the practise we all nailed it.

peer evaluation
My peers seemed to be very proud off me for actually doing the performance and giving it my best shot because I feel the class knows I lack confidence on the dancing element off it as I'm not the strongest dancer. I was also told that my projection was really good and it really stood out in season of love.

my future targets would be

  • To try not miss anymore lessons
  • try to remain focused during songs so I can keep in time.
  • to complete my work as soon as I get it.
  • Put myself out there more with my singing

Week 5 - school song

Week 5 - school song

Monday
In today's lesson we started it off by re watching our mock performances from last week as a class. overall my opinion on the performance was that the projection had defiantly improved however, the actual choreograph within my group was quite weak. I believe we could do this by putting more energy and effort into the dance and giving it all we've got like we would if it was an actual live performance. we then had a warm up and went over some songs we've done previously for example seasons of love, nothing like a dame, etc. To help us remember them

Week 4 - school song

week 4 school song (Matilda)

Monday
we started of the lesson with tongue twisters such as red lorry yellow lorry etc and scales to practise our diction. The class was then split into to so we could all focus on our vocals within a smaller group however, overall our main aim to improve on our projection because it just wasn't loud enough. We then spent the rest of the lesson practising our projection.

Tuesdays
today we did a body warm up where we use all our muscles and then a foot warm up after it. This is the warm up we did before the half term. just to help with our stamina and get ready for dancing. After, we continued on from last weeks lesson of using the blocks. This time i managed to to stay on time and not make any mistakes. My group managed to perfectly do the alphabet however, when some people weren't moving the blocks they were just standing still not knowing what to do with themselves. Nadine picked this up and got us (even the little kids) to do the dance the big kids did at the start; now, in this part of the choreography. She also highlighted the importance on focusing the audiences attention on the certain blocks. for example, when Ms being called it should be the most visible block. We continued practicing while acting on what Nadine said for the rest of the lesson. At the end i really noticed a big improvement.

Friday
we started today lesson getting into groups of 4 and sang "i like the flowers i like the daffodils" while doing dance moves with it. All the different groups had different starting and ending times. We had a quick run though of everything we had done just preparing us for our mocks. So, later on we did are mock. Basically we performed in front of a camera so we can later reflect on our work. I performed twice in front of the camera because in the other group elle was unable to perform the dance or move all the blocks so because i had the same part as her in the other group i stepped in. Doing it twice actually helped put me out of my comfort zone and helped my confidence.

Week 3 - school song

week 3 school song (Matilda)

Monday
We started the lesson doing vocal warm ups with Sam (scales) and tounge twisters such as "she sells sea shells" to practise diction. We then went though the whole song as a group and got feed back by someone randomly in the class and they told Sam that they think we should work on our projection as we can barely be heard over the backing track. So that was are main target for the lesson. We continuously practised singing with projection or as Sam said "singing from the diaphragm". By the end of the lesson are volume significantly increased.

Friday

We started today's lesson off jogging, running, hopping etc (each time alternating) around the classroom while trying to sing school song with a good level of projection as it helps build stamina. As i wasn't in for the Tuesday lesson this was my first lesson being introduced to the blocks (the alphabet part in school song). My character was assigned the letter F,M. I struggled quite a lot in remembering to push the M block forward which meant tom was unable to put his letter down and it just messed up the whole thing. However, we kept going over it and I was determined to do it so I did and then over the course of the practises i moved all the blocks i should have successfully without any mistakes.

Week 2 - school song

week 2 school song (Matilda)

Monday

Todays lesson we started the lesson doing singing school song all the way through. After that we then did vocal warm ups to get out voices warmed up. We then went over school song again. This time, the small children singing their solos (Me). During this I was assigned to sing the solo "mum says i'm a angel" at the end. However, I didn't feel comfortable doing this as I struggled to hit the high note unless I went into falsetto. I didn't tell anyone I felt this way and carried on just singing it in falsetto. We then went over the next chunks of the song. Taking it slow so we are all able to grasp the lyrics ready for Tuesdays lesson.

Tuesday

In today's lesson we started it off doing a dance warm up we've previously practiced with Nadine. This warm up involves stretching and using all our muscles in time with the music. We then did like a foot warm up to prepare us for our work and build physical flexibility and stamina. After this Nadine made us all recap the routine we picked up last week. She then added to the dance routine for later on in the song. The new moves we learnt I struggled to stay in time however, it wasn't a priority I learn it then and there as I am a little kid and I wont need to use that routine until later on in the song. The big kids then practiced doing the whole dance they learnt along with the singing and us little kids focused on our solos for the rest of the lesson.

Week 1 - school song

week 1 school song (Matilda)

Monday

Today was the first lesson back after the half term. We started the lesson by doing vocal warm ups and physical movements to wake ourselves up ready for singing. We then got given lyrics to school song. Before we sang it Sam continuously highlighted the importance of diction i didn't really understand what he meant by that. We sung the song but at little chunks at a time. I felt this made it much easier to remember and learn. Sam split up the class into two groups and within these two groups we took the initiative to assign the roles of the little children and big children. I decided to be a little child and with that role I was given two solos at the start. Throughout the rest of the lesson we just continued singing it until everyone had fully grasped it.

Tuesday
We started the lesson by having vocal warm ups and then we had ago at singing the school song. We then all copied Nadine following her step by learning the beginning of the dance. The start seemed quite easy but i don't think we practised it enough for me to be able to retain it next lesson. We were then assigned to our groups from the previous lesson. We went over more of the dance in small chunks repeatedly. But, as a small child i didn't need to perform the dance just yet but I did need to learn it for later on. Both groups performed theirs in front of the class. And i believe i did very well however, next time i need to be more focused on staying in time.

Fridays
Are lesson was split up today. Nadine split the class in half so one group carried on practicing their school of rock song and the other group carried on with their presentation. Then at the end off the lesson I performed my wilkomen performance that I had previously missed.

The start of willkomen

Monday
On Monday we were introduced to the willkommen song in cabaret. At first; listening to it i was panicking because i felt as though i would not be able to learn the lyrics. My first attempt i was miss wording all of the lyrics but then in class we repeated the song so many times that i was able top pick up some of the lyrics from the chorus.

Tuesday
We began the dance. At this point we got taught the dance alongside the lyrics so I struggled because I wasn't confident enough with the lyrics to be able to sing them while dancing. So instead of taking in the dance we were being taught, I was in my head thinking about the lyrics. which meant that i was't learning the dance and was slower learning it then everyone else.

Friday
On the Friday we spent the whole lessons just going over the singing and the dancing. I was much more confident singing the chorus on the Friday. So once I was confident with that I repeatedly for the whole lessons copied my peers doing the dance until I was picking it up. This was really helping me learn it.
